Rites Slated Tomorrow for Samuel Saniel
Real Estate Man Dies at 79 During Florida Vacation
Services for Samuel Saniel, a veteranPittsburgh Real Estate man will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Ralph Schugar Chapel, 5509 Centre Avenue.
Mr. Saniel of 1723 Wightman Street, died Friday at the age of 79 while vacationing in Miami Beach.
He was a partner with William Elkind in the Saniel-Elkind Agency, 3700 Fifth Avenue.
A Romanian by birth, Mr. Elkind visited relatives in that Communist-controlled country nine years ago to investigate export possibilities.
He came to the United States at the age of 16 to become a lithographer for the Pittsburgh Printing Co.
Later he was in the lamp business here and followed this by opening the S&S Film Distributing Co.
Highly-inflammable film caught fire in 1920 and Mr. Saniel remained inside the building until all his employees had reached safety.
His next venture- a short-lived one - was the Pittsburgh Commercial Bank, which he closed within a year in order to repay depositors all their money when bad times threatened.
Mr.Saniel entered the real estate business in 1922. Just four years ago, he enrolled in the University of Miami art school and had an oil painting exhibited in 1956 at the Lowe Galleries.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Brooks, New York and Mrs. William Elkind of Pittsburgh, and three grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Schugar chapel after 8 p.m.today. Burial will be in Beth Shalom Cemetery.
