Gamache, R. Donald
The stars shone less brightly over Enfield, NH on July 11, 2014 when retired international business development executive and author, R Donald Gamache left this earth to be reunited with his daughters Mariette Smith Gamache (1981) and Lisette Gamache Becker (2002).
Don Gamache, uncomplainingly battled multiple sclerosis for 35 years but ultimately lost his fight to leukemia. In the last few weeks of his life, resigned at home to a hospital bed, he espoused how lucky he was to be dying surrounded by such wonderful people who loved him? but that was the essence of Don; in the darkest of moments, he was always able to find light.
Don was born on August 30, 1935 in Fall River, MA and was raised in Clifton, NJ. He received his BS in 1958 from Saint Peters University. He moved his family to Fairfield, CT when he accepted the position as Vice President of Van Dyke Corporation in Southport. He co-founded Innotech Corporation in 1969 where he served as CEO until his retirement.
Don wrote a business-oriented book for Harper & Row (The Creativity Infusion), which was a best seller and used as a textbook in graduate business programs.
Personally, Don played tournament judo, was a sailor and long distance runner for over 20 years.
After retiring in 1989, Don and Kathy moved to Enfield, NH and spent many winters in their villa on Kiawah Island, SC. Don taught his own children "To whom much is given, much is expected," and locally he volunteered with multiple organizations.
In later years, he memorized dozens of Robert Frost poems, they brought him great comfort during his numerous hospital stays and physical struggles.
Don passed peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. He never lost his positive outlook, sense of humor, great belief in God and the ability of growth and goodness for mankind. He left a bit of his light in us all.
A public memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, August 17th at 1:00pm at the Enfield Community Building, 308 US Route 4, in Enfield, NH. Friends are invited to come share food, wine and if inspired, memories of Don. Please RSVP your name and the number attending to: celebratedongamache@gmail.com by August 10th.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Robert Frost Farm and mailed to: Peter S Gaucher, Treasurer, Friends of Robert Frost Farm, PO Box 1075, Derry, NH 03038 in memory of Don.
