WEST SPRINGFIELD- George W. Gamache, age 63, of West Springfield died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Holyoke Medical Center after a long illness. He was born in Holyoke, beloved son of the late Armand J. and Mary (Counter) Gamache. He worked for Sunshine Village and was currently employed by Goodwill Industries, where he worked for over 20 years. George participated in the First Special Olympics, winning a gold medal, which was presented to him by Ted Kennedy to the delight of his parents. He enjoyed fishing and spending the holidays with his family. George is survived by two sisters, Terri Fohlbrook of Belchertown and Jean Gamache of Chicopee, two brothers, Hugh and his wife Gail of South Hadley and Armand and his wife Maureen of Westfield, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife Linda Gamache of West Springfield. George was predeceased by a brother, Francis Gamache and a niece Carol Gamache-Taylor. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Goodwill Industries, 285 Dorset Street, Springfield, MA 01108.
