Raymond C. West, age 60, of Menomonie, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 17, 2010, with his family by his side and Northwest Wisconsin Hospice giving comfort.
Raymond was born May 20, 1949 in Mineapolis, Minn., to Carl & Doris (Summerland) West and grew up on the family farm near Forest Lake, Minn. He was a graduate of Forest Lake High School and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving until 1970. Raymond married Carol J. Bluel on Sept. 24, 1983 at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minn., and they lived in St. Paul until 1995 when the family moved to Menomonie. Until recently, he was employed by Red Cedar Medical Center of Menomonie.
He is survived by his wife of 26 1/2 years, Carol, of Menomonie; two sons, Chad M. Bluel and Jeremy L. West, both of Menomonie; two grandchildren, Kody M. Bluel and Loralie F West; two brothers, Ronald (Caroline) Gamache of St. Croix Falls, and Steve (Stephanie) West of St. Paul; three sisters, Karen Seils of St. South St. Paul, Minn., Sandy (Doug) Flom of New Richmond, and Kathy (Arlen) Wente of Hudson; sister-in-law, Arlene Gamache of Pine River, Minn.; brother-in-law, Joe Gallus of Oakdale, Minn.; 20 nieces and nephews; 37 great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe; one sister, Rosie Gallus; and one nephew, Tim Gamache.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment of his cremation remains will be held at The Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in rural Spooner at a later date.
