FALMOUTH - Barbara Hamrin of Falmouth, passed away peacefully following a brief battle with cancer at the Hospice McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich on September 10, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.She was born on July 19, 1935 in Worcester, the daughter of Raoul and Theresa (Laske) Gamache. Barbara grew up in the Worcester area and was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School and was one of the first women to attend Clark University. She moved to Falmouth in 1976 where she worked for the Town of Falmouth.
Barbara was an avid quilter, receiving many awards for some of her quilt designs over her many years of quilting, including the Silver Bowl at the Barnstable County Fair. She was a member of the Ladies of the Evening quilting guild as well as The Crazy Quilters of Falmouth. Her other passions included knitting, reading and listening to music.
Barbara is survived by John Hamrin, her husband of 54 years; her brother, George Gamache of Bloomington, IL; and her sister, Joan Desautels of Worcester. She leaves behind three children, Michael and his wife Debra of Connecticut, Teresa Hamrin of Dennis, and John of Falmouth. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jennifer Hamrin, Michelle Hamrin, and James Hamrin, all of Connecticut.
There will be no calling hours and funeral arrangements are private.
The family asks that anyone wishing to make donations in Barbara's memory should make them to Cape Cod Hospice McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Road, Sandwich, MA 02563 who provided Barbara and her family with outstanding care and support during the last few months.
