LEOMINSTER -- Wilfred J. Gamache, 78, of 556 Central St., died Monday, May 20, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 39 years, Mildred (Sweet) LaRoche Gamache; two sons, Wilfred J. Gamache of Holden, and Norman S. Gamache of Leominster; a stepson, Barry R. LaRoche of Fitchburg; two daughters, Yvette Pandiscio of Fitchburg and Jacqueline Gamache of Leominster; a stepdaughter, Janice A. Quinn of Leominster; a brother, Norman Gamache of Fitchburg; a sister, Pauline Landry of Fitchburg; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Wilfred J. and Lydia (Tremblay) Gamache, and moved to Leominster in 1960. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1942. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Mr. Gamache was a production manager 47 years, working at Fitchburg Paper Co., Litton Industries, Technographics and the Roland Paper Co. He retired in 1988.
He managed Fitchburg and Leominster Babe Ruth Baseball league teams for 16 years, and was a member of the PIMA International Paper Makers Organizations. He was a member of the Fitchburg Sportsman Club and Gardner Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 905.
He was a member of St. Leo's Church.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, in St. Leo's Church, 108 Main St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg. Donations may be made to St. Leo's Church, 120 Main St., Leominster, MA 01453.
