Laurel Robert Gamache, 79, Lisbon died June 24 at his home. Laurel was born January 25, 1936 to Otto and Leona (Stillwell) Gamache in Watford City, ND. The family moved to Ambrose, ND where he attended school up to the third grade. They returned to Watford City where he finished grade school. They moved to Lisbon, ND in 1949 where he graduated from high school in 1953. Laurel joined the Navy in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He attended VCSU. He married Donna Leach in 1959. He continued his education at UND, graduating in 1962. They moved to Williston and Buena Park, CA. They returned to Williston where he was the city auditor. They moved to Crookston, MN where he was the hospital comptroller. They returned to Lisbon where they purchased the Lisbon Hotel. He started an accounting practice as well as taking on a "temporary" position as Lisbon city auditor which lasted 26 years. He and his wife, Donna worked well side by side for 56 years until his retirement in 2008. He was honored to have served his community both in civic and professional capacities. Laurel was proud to have participated with his teammates in both track and football in Lisbon and Valley City. The Lisbon teams saw eight championships including conference, district, regional and state titles. He was on both track and football teams at Valley City when they were conference champions. He was later inducted into the Valley City Hall of Fame. His hobbies included painting and riding horses at team penning events. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, David and his son, Jon and daughters, Azara and Harper, and daughter, Kimberly and her son, Vincent all of Sioux Falls, SD, his son, Scott of Lisbon, his daughter, Jol'ee and her daughter, Emma of Lisbon, his son, James and friend, Bonita of Horace and his step-daughters, Janelle and Alexandra; brothers, Elden and Clair of Grants Pass, Oregon, Larry (Rose) of Sidney, Montana, Gene (Joanne) of Fortville, Indiana and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service: Thursday, July 2 at 2:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon Please wear casual or cowboy attire.
