Danvers ? Mrs. Dorothy (Newbegin) Gamache, 83, of Danvers, beloved wife of the late Francis H. Gamache, died Monday, September 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Lowell and Ruby (Esty) Newbegin. She was raised and educated in Danvers, and was a graduate of Salem Vocational High School, class of 1952.
Mrs. Gamache had been employed at the former, Ideal Baby Shoe in Danvers for many years. She met her beloved husband Francis while at Ideal and it would spawn 44 wonderful years together.
After raising her beloved children, Melanie and Mark, she went to work at the Maple Street Congregational Church as the Sexton for over 25 years until the time of her retirement.
A lifelong resident of the Town of Danvers, Dorothy was devoted to her family, church, and community. She was an active member of the Maple Street Congregational Church where she served her church community for many years. She loved to sing and joined the ?8 Notes? ? retired show tune singers. She was a member of the Polish Club in Danvers, the Women?s Bowling League, and the Danvers Senior Citizen Club. Above all else, Dorothy?s family came first; she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who was passionate about providing a warm and loving home for her family.
Sewing and knitting were a big part of Dorothy?s life. She would sell her items at local fairs and donate the proceeds to the Senior Center. Summer would bring on her canning and jelly making projects, which she loved to share with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at her ?camp? in Vermont, where family and friends would gather to make memories. She will be fondly remembered as a kind, caring woman who will be deeply missed.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Melanie Pappastratis and her husband William of Marshfield; her son, Mark Gamache of Danvers; her grandchildren, Nikolas, Adam and Brett; her siblings, Marion Howell and her husband James of California, and John Lowell Newbegin and his wife Mary of Florida; and several nieces and nephews, and extended family. She was the sister of the late George and Frank Newbegin.
Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O?Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers, Monday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Visiting hours Sunday, Sept. 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Dorothy?s memory to Danvers People to People Food Pantry, P.O.
