PASCO - Leonard "Len" John Hanses, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend passed away peacefully at his home on December 10, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 5, 1933, to Fred and Helen Hanses in Yakima, Washington. He graduated from Marquette High School for Boys in 1951. Len was drafted into the Army in 1953. He was selected and trained for the Signal Corps section of the Army and later became part of the 82nd Airborne Division and trained as a jumper. He served for two years at the end of the Korean War and left active service in March 1955 having achieved the rank of Army Sergeant. He served in the reserves until 1960. Len moved to Pasco in December of 1955. He was a well known farmer in this area. Len was President of Hanses & Sons Farming Corporation for 42 years. He served in several key agricultural leadership positions over the years which include: Washington State Potato Commission; Board of Directors for Farm Credit Services in Spokane; Board of Directors of Greater Pasco Area Chamber of Commerce; and Chairman of the Mid-Columbia Farm Forum & Ag Show. Len married the love of his life, Marilyn Cecelia (Gamache) Hanses, on November 14, 1959 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee, Washington and they made Pasco their home. They had one of the rare "forever love" kind of relationships. Len had a big heart and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn; his daughters: Mary (Gary) Braun of Boise, ID, Darleen (Mark) Vander Malle of Pasco, WA, Karen Hovley of Emmett, ID, Linda (Rob) Crowner of Pasco, WA, Maureen (Terry) Hall of Walla Walla, WA, Kim (Todd) Williams of North Bend, WA, and his son John (Sandra) Hanses of Pasco, WA, and 27 grandchildren; also by two brothers, Herbert Hanses of Yakima, WA, and Lambert Hanses of Pasco, WA; his sister, Rita Scarpelli of Eugene, OR; two aunts, Irene Schafer of Moses Lake, WA, and Martha Washam of Portland, OR. In addition, Len is survived by numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and over one hundred nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sisters, Janet St.Hilaire and Marjorie Urlacher, and his brother, Freddie Hanses. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, December 14, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Pasco. Burial will immediately follow at City View Cemetery in Pasco.
