GEORGE GAMACHE - BURLINGTON - George Gamache, 58, of Grey Meadow Drive in Burlington, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 8, 2013, following a short illness. He was surrounded by people who loved him and whom he loved. George was born on March 14, 1955, in Barre, the son of Richard Sr. and Suzanne (Gevry) Gamache. He graduated from Rice Memorial High School in 1973 and the University of Vermont in 1979. He was married on Aug. 3, 2002, to his long time friend and love of his life, Beth Nutter. George had many interests and passions. It was his love of baseball that led him to coach North Burlington Little League for 22 years. Since 2012, he has continued to remain involved in the league as a volunteer, board member and announcer. George, an avid Yankee fan, loved visiting Yankee Stadium and bantering with the many Red Sox fans in the family, especially his wife. George's interests in sports went beyond baseball, as he often attended UVM men's hockey and women's basketball games. George loved the New North End of Burlington where he lived almost his entire life. His enthusiasm for this area showed in the many activities he was involved in. He was a board member of Heineberg Senior Center, elected to oversee Burlington ward 4 elections, involved in the current Burlington ward redistricting and was a lector at St. Mark's Church for many years. George's passion for politics, both Burlington and national, started at a young age. He was elected senior class president. George loved his role as class president and took it very seriously. Most recently, he has been working diligently with classmates to plan the upcoming class of '73 RMHS 40th class reunion. He felt very connected to his classmates and will surely be missed by them. George was the Vermont Heart Walk 2011 spokesman. He lived by the words he delivered in his speech that day. His health and longevity were important to him and he worked hard to have a healthy heart. As a realtor for many years, George helped countless family and friends to find just the right home. He got into the real estate business in 1979 for reasons that still apply today. He wanted to be involved in a field that was important in the lives of people. Your home, in whatever form it takes, is where you start and end every day. Being a detail oriented person, after seven years as a realtor, it was natural to become an appraiser; which he did exclusively for 11 years. Ultimately, however, the work became perfunctory, too far removed from the original reasons he got into the real estate business. He decided to return to the sales side of real estate, joining Coldwell Banker Hickok & Boardman Realty full-time in early 1997. George is survived by his wife, Beth Nutter Gamache; his best buddy and Shar Pei, Teddy; his mother, Suzanne (Gevry) Gamache; and his brothers and sister, Richard H. and Susan Gamache, Michael and Mary Gamache, John T. Gamache, Denise and Allen Shangraw, and Timothy and Carla Gamache. In addition, many aunts, uncles, cousins, beloved nieces and nephews and their children, including a special great-niece, Samantha; and his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Connie Nutter. He was predeceased by Richard Gamache Sr.; and his adored dog, Birdie. His life has been blessed with many dear friends. Visiting hours are today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. in St. Mark Church, North Avenue, Burlington, with interment to follow in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
