Rick Gamache
Burlington - Rick Gamache, 69, of Burlington died on February 3 at the UVM Medical Center. He was a big-hearted man who was loved by all who knew him, but his heart was fragile and unable to sustain him any longer.
He was born on August 6, 1951 in St. Albans the son of Richard H Gamache Sr. and Suzanne Y. Gevry. He was a graduate of Rice Memorial High School in 1969. On April 4, 1975 he was married in St. Catherine's Church, Shelburne to Susan M. Desroches.
Rick was a private man who loved deeply, but quietly. He showed his love by always doing what he could to help anyone who asked. Everyone he dealt with knew he was an honest man with great integrity. In his later years as his hair turned from prematurely gray to white, he began what became his greatest joy in life, playing Santa each year for everyone from little babies having their picture taken with him, preschoolers in day care excited to tell Santa what they wanted him to bring for Christmas, to parties for the elderly in care homes. At one of those parties, he was asked to go to the bed side of a 100-year-old lady who was not able to come down to the party with the others l. As he knelt by her bed, she held his hand, looked him in the eyes and told him he was the best Santa she had ever seen. He always said that was the greatest compliment he ever received.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, sons Christopher P. Gamache of Georgia and Brian L. Gamache (Jessica Davitt) of Winooski and one beloved granddaughter, Samantha. Others left to mourn his loss are his mother, Suzanne Gamache, brothers Michael (Mary Liberty), John and Timothy (CJ), his sister, Denise Shangraw (Allen), sisters-in-law Beth Gamache and Karen Abbott (Nino), and brother-in-law, Robert Desroches (Rhea).
He was predeceased by his father, Richard H. Gamache, Sr, his brother, George Gamache and sister-in-law, Mary Gamache.
Visiting hours will take place on Sunday, February 7, 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd, Burlington. You are requested to follow VT state Covid 19 guidelines by wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 8, 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, 305 Flynn Avenue with interment to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery, 200 Hinesburg Road, South Burlington. Those who wish memorial contributions may be made to Joseph's House, 113 Elmwood Avenue.
