Mildred Nichols Koger Ed.D, widow of Gerald Lee Gamache Ph.D passed away April 18, 2014. Dr. Koger was a school psychologist, Nationally Certified Professional Counselor, musician and entrepreneur. She held three bachelor's degrees, one from Florida State University and two from Jacksonville University in music. She earned master and doctoral degrees from the University of Florida in Counseling Education and Psychology while she was an assistant music professor there.
As she followed her Navy husband's assignments, she taught and worked with counseling programs at various colleges, including Troy State at Dothan and Old Dominion University.
After her husband's major stroke, she was employed for 11 plus years as school psychologist for Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, where she was affectionately called "Dr. Mili."
Dr. Koger has been listed in Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the South West and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Recently, she was awarded inclusion in Recognizing Outstanding Women in the Arts. Other awards are Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Lambda Theta, Phi Kappa Delta. She held life membership in the American Psychological Association, the American Choral Directors Association and Sigma Alpha Iota, professional music association for women.
She is survived by brother, Hugh Nichols, Cocoa, Fla.; sisters, Dorothy Sparkman of St. Augustine, Marilyn Ocock of Columbus, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her stepchildren, Sarah Gamache of Jacksonville, Kimberly Brantley and granddaughter, Jessica Erin Brantley of St. Augustine, Eric Terrence Gamache of Los Angeles, sister-in-law, Sharon Shaver of St. Louis, and brother-in-law, Rynard Gamache of Tucson.
The family is grateful for all the wonderful friends and neighbors who helped with loving care during her last days. They are very grateful to sister, Marilyn, who gave her devoted and complete care for weeks.
Drs. Koger and Gamache were active in giving to the community, especially to Flagler College, Limelight Theatre and EMMA. In lieu of flowers it is suggested that donations be made to a charity of choice .
Memorial services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, with the Rev David Weidner, officiating.
