Obituary
Lewiston - Katherine M. Gamache, 94, of Lisbon Falls, passed away peacefully at D'Youville Pavillion on Sunday, January 12, 2014. She had been a resident there for 1 1/2 years. She was born on March 4, 1919, in Lisbon Falls, the daughter of John and Katherine Adams. She attended Lisbon Falls schools and graduated from Lisbon High School, class of 1937. In June of 1940 she married Clifford A. Gamache of Lisbon. They had one son, Daniel. Katherine worked in the Worumbo Textile Mill as a sewer until the mill closed. She then furthered her education and became an insurance secretary for a short time. She then took the civil service exam and was hired as a purchasing agent for the commissary at the Brunswick Naval Air Station. She worked there for 20 years retiring at the age of 67. Katherine lived her whole life in the house she was born in. She was an expert at crocheting and enjoyed painting, especially religious pictures. She was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church of Lisbon Falls, and later at Holy Trinity Church. Katherine's parents were immigrants from Slovakia. She was always very proud of her Slovak heritage and spoke fluent Slovak. In the 1950's, she was involved with the Slovak Catholic Association of Lisbon Falls as the instructor for the girls drill and gymnastics team, taking them to competitions in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., as well as all around New England. She was an avid Red Sox fan, going to many games in Boston with her long time friend and classmate, Margaret Marchak. She enjoyed watching her granddaughters play sports at Lisbon High and softball for the University of Maine. Everyone called her Baba. Katherine is survived by her son, Daniel Gamache and his wife Phyllis of Lisbon Falls, her granddaughters: Angel Tibbetts and Katherine Shumway and her husband Matthew, four great-grandchildren: Jack, Levi, Annabelle and Lyla, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Clifford in 1959, a sister: Mary Adams Doboga and three brothers: John, Andrew and Michael Adams. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday January 16 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 10:00 Am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Katherine's memory may be made to: Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 67 Frost Hill Avenue, Lisbon Falls, Me. 04252 Committal services will be held in the spring at St. Cyrill Cemetery.
