- [S5] Obituary.
Isabelle Gamache Patnode
Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory
Our sweet and loving mother, Isabelle Gamache Patnode, died peacefully June 3, 2019 at home at Ellen House, AFH.
She was born July 5, 1921, the fifth child of George and Doria (Champoux) Gamache of Moxee, a French-Canadian farming family.
She attended school at Holy Rosary Catholic School in Moxee, graduating in 1939. During her senior year she was chosen by Father Francis Fleming to play Nancy, the female lead in a fund raiser musical for the parish. Elie Patnode was chosen to play Prince Jokko. Although both had been raised in the Moxee farming community, their paths had not really crossed until the play brought them together. Romance bloomed in the play and in life when, during the last performance on June 4, 1939, Elie proposed to Isabelle in front of a packed audience of 300. They were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 21, 1940 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Thus, began more than 65 years of their faith-filled journey.
Mom was devoted to praying the rosary and was active in the ladies? Altar Societies in each parish they lived in, the Blessed Sacrament Youth Group in Grandview, and whatever activities in which her children were involved. She enjoyed reading, gardening, lots of different crafts, was an excellent seamstress, and before hats went out of style learned to make beautiful hats for herself and her five daughters.
She loved traveling in their motor home with Dad, mostly to Arizona and Mexico. On these long trips in the winter they kept busy making jewelry and learning new methods with their other jewelry making friends. They enjoyed hosting friends for happy hour and meals.
Mom is survived by her children and spouses: Francis and (Char) Patnode, Woodland, WA, Peggy and (Tom) Roy, Yakima, Lou Ann Desgrosellier, Yakima, Les and (Caroline) Patnode, Benton City, WA, Shirley and (Ron) Foster, Yakima, Nancy and (Dave) Greene, Twin Lakes, WA, Darline and (Marc) Charbonneau, Yakima, and foster son, Maury Higuera, Pasco, WA. She is also survived by her sister, Darline Benoit of Seattle, sister-in-law, Trudy Gamache, Yakima, 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene Patnode, her parents, husband, Elie, and siblings, Roseann (Gamache) Daudelin Albright, Lawrence, Jeffery, Euclid, Leonard, Donald and Gerald Gamache.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (201 N. Iler St., Moxee, WA 98936), on Friday, June 7, 2019, at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 8, 2019, also at Holy Rosary at 10:00 AM. Lunch will be served in the parish hall followed by a committal service at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
We are so grateful for the loving care Mom received at Ellen House from Cindi, Jenna, Lynette and Jacque.
