- Jules Edmond Gamache
Resident of San Jose
Sept. 29, 1926 - Aug.13, 2011
Jules was born on September 29th, 1926 in Worchester, MA, to Fred and Blanche Gamache, the middle of five children. Jules died peacefully with family and friends at his side on August 13, 2011 after waging a long battle with cancer. Jules was predeceased by his parents and beloved daughter Marie Elaine Foege, as well as his brother John.
Jules left New England and its small town factory-labor-pool way of life in 1946, enrolling in Seattle University with the assistance of the GI bill. He graduated in 1950 with a BCS in Commercial Science and shortly thereafter began his life-long carreer with the General Electric Company. Jules met the love of his life, Joan O'Neill, a Seattle native in college and they married in 1949.
After 3 years with GE in Seattle he was appointed a manufacturing program that brought the family back to the northeast and multiple location assignments eventually culminating in their move to San Jose in 1968. His 39 years carreer with the Company included several foreign assignments, and 3 years at the New York City headquarters.
An avid outdoorsman and skier, Jules loved and appreciated the beauty of mountains and landscapes of the many places where he and Joan traveled throughout their lives.
Jules touched many lives by his devotion to his faith, family and to his music. Jules came from a musical family and as a talented jazz bassist, he is most remembered for the offering of his gift of music to his family and community. Jules was the 'resident bassist ' of the choir at the Holy Spirit Church in the Almaden Valley for well over 40 years. Dedicated to his faith, he was also an active member of the parish and was involved in many ministries over the years.
Jules is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan; his sisters: Constance Rheault, Annette Emmons, and brother Roger Gamache; 3 children, Julie Gamache, Robert Gamache, and Clare Owen; 8 grandchildren: Sean, Aaron, Johanna, Stefan, Mikaela, Kaleb, Jullian and Trevor; and 2 great grandchildren; Linnea and Amelia.
A funeral mass will be held at the Holy Spirit Church, 1200 Redmond Rd., San Jose, CA, 95120 on August 27th, at 11:00 am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Spirit Church, or to Hospice of the Valley.
