Deceased Name: Henry J. Gamache Worked for Raytheon; Marine veteran
Henry J. Gamache, 81, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Marlborough Hospital in Marlborough, Mass.
Mr. Gamache was born in Fall River, Mass., son of the late Louis and Rose (Montplaisir) Gamache. He spent his youth in the Somerset and Swansea, Mass., area.
He was the widower of the late Claire (Fluet) Gamache, who died in 1978.
Mr. Gamache was employed as a field engineer with Raytheon Corp. for 11 years including three years in Saudi Arabia. He retired in 1979. He also worked as area director for the state Emergency Management Agency (civil defense) for Central Massachusetts, which includes 74 communities where he was responsible for getting cities and towns prepared for natural and man-made emergencies. He served in that position until 1991.
He was a member of the Hudson (Mass.) Lodge of Elks 959, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Massachusetts Retired State Municipal Employees Association and the Marine Corps Association, and a former member of the VFW and American Legion Post of Hudson, Mass.
Mr. Gamache joined the Marine Corps in 1942 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He served in Korea from 1952-53 and in Vietnam from 1966-67. He received many commendations during his career in the military, including the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star.
He graduated from Prevost High School in Fall River in 1941. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover following World War II, as an officer training candidate while in the Corps.
Mr. Gamache was predeceased by a brother, George Gamache.
Survivors include a son, Paul Gamache and his fiancee, Kathy Andrel, of Nashua; three stepsons, Harry Rogers of Monson, Mass., John Rogers of Houston, Texas, and Seth Rogers of Ashland, Mass.; a sister, Sister Cecile Gamache, a member of the Order of the Presentation of Mary, of Nashua; three brothers, Louis Gamache of Florida, Arthur Gamache of Tewsksbury, Mass., and Roland Gamache of Chelmsford, Mass.; and his former wife, Judith (Sappet) Rogers.
The Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home in Hudson, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.
