Died:
- Joyce Elaine Niemi, 89, passed away on October 14, 2022, in her own home peacefully. She was the wife of Donald James Niemi (Harpo). They shared 71 beautiful years together.
Born in Ironwood, Michigan, she was the daughter of Luella Anderson and William Ludlow. She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School located in Ironwood. She was employed at Sears and worked as a home health worker for Caring Inc. She lived in Ironwood her entire life up until 2016 when she and her husband moved in with their daughter, Lynn, and son-in-law, James, in Rhinelander, WI.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, walking, berry picking, and couponing. She and her husband spent their time traveling and enjoying short adventures together. She will be remembered for her amazing homemade pasties, her adorable dimples, her quirky personality, and her being a very loving and caring wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. One thing Joyce always looked forward to was summers when school finished and her grandchildren would come visit her for a week at a time. She would always play lots of card games with them and somehow her grandchildren always ended up winning. She loved her grandchildren, especially spoiling them by giving them things that their parents usually restricted. Family always meant a lot to her, she always put Sundays aside for family time by doing what she loved to do most, cooking for her family.
She will be missed by her husband Donald James Niemi (Harpo), her brother William Ludlow and her children Donald Niemi Jr. (Sharon), Debra Maccagnano, and Lynn Volkmann (James). Her grandchildren Jeff Niemi (Beth), Joann Niemi West (Brian), Jason D?Antonio (Anza), Eric D?Antonio (Mandy), Tammy Wickersham (Jeff), Shaun Mathwich (Lori), Robyn Bretl (Nick), Colton Volkmann (Kayla), and Mikaela Volkmann. Her six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her father William Ludlow, mother Luella Anderson, her sisters Audrey Hill, and Delores Trolla, and her brother Donald Ludlow.
With respect to Joyce?s wishes, there will be no service but a celebration of life will take place for her close friends and family. The family would also like to thank the Compasses Hospice team for their ongoing care and compassion throughout the last two years.
Joyce loved guardian angels and even had a collection of them. She always thought her mom was her guardian angel and now she?s able to be ours.
