Died:
- Barrent lived in Turtle Lake, Barron County, WI. His faith was Lutheran (Missouri Synod), and he was named after his paternal grandfather. Family members called him Barry, fellow service men called him Torgy. He was said to be a loyal person, with a good head on his shoulders, and a good soldier.

Barrent worked on a 5-ton armored gun truck called Mighty Minny. Gun trucks would protect the convoy when it transported goods.
Barrent died in the Kontum province of Vietnam in a helicopter crash. The helicopter skidded 100 ft, spun 3 revolutions in the air, made impact with the ground, and burst into flames. Only two servicemen survived the crash.
