He was born in Richmond, Virginia and then went home to live in Hopewell, Virginia until moving to Norfolk, Virginia in 1946 where he graduated from Granby High School and furthered his education at Virginia Tech University, where he graduated in 1951. Jim was the only son of James Millenton and Lucille Labonté McElroy. Survived by the love of his life & wife of 50 years, Karen McElroy; children, Heather McElroy, Michael (Lisa) McElroy, Matthew (Aimée) McElroy; his children by a previous marriage, David (Sarah) McElroy, Saune and Morgan; and grandchildren Ransom, Taylor, Kaeden, Megan, Taylor, David Jr, Justin,Conrad, Alden, Jamie, Ryan and Chris. Predeceased by his oldest son, James William McElroy Jr.(in the spring of this year). A funeral service with Pastor Randy Duncan presiding, will be held October 4, 2020 at Loving Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Olive Branch Cemetery.
