Joan L. Gamache, 78, of Nashua and widow of Aldege L. ?Al? Gamache, Jr., died Thursday evening, October 21, 2010 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, from complications due to a fall at her home.
A daughter of the late Theodore and Helen (Paulisol) Peno, she was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 8, 1932. A resident of this city for most of her life, Mrs. Gamache grew up in the French Hill neighborhood in Nashua and was educated in local schools.
On July 1, 1950 Joan and her husband Al were married in Lowell, Mass. They made their home on Lake Street in Nashua for many years and enjoyed summers at their cottage at Cygnet Shores in Meredith. The couple shared 53 years together before Mr. Gamache?s death on October 2, 2003.
Joan had been employed with Sprague Electric Company in Nashua for 34 years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph The Worker Parish and was a volunteer of the Women?s groups at St. Joseph?s; The Community Hospice House in Merrimack and the Meredith (NH) Senior Center. She was also a member of the Golden Gals Club.
In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brother, Theodore Peno, Jr.
Members of her family include a daughter, Priscilla and son-in-law Richard Ralph of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Michael D. Gamache of Nashua, and daughter, Janet and son-in-law, Jonathan Hosmer of Cocoa Beach, FL; six grandsons, Jason Reid, Jeffery Reid, Christopher Gamache, Gregory Ralph, Michael Baillargeon and Colton Baillargeon; three granddaughters, Rebecca Morrison, Kimberly Shearer and Leah Ouellette; a great-grandson, Scout Morrison; five great-granddaughters, Chantal Reid, Julianna Reid, Morgan Ouellette, Sadie Morrison and Hailey Shearer; a sister-in-law, Marsha LaBrecque and her husband Paul of Webster, NH; also nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan is also survived by her companion Angelo Pelio, with whom she enjoyed the past two winters in Margate, Florida.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph The Worker Church, 777 West Hollis Street, Nashua, Thursday morning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend and will gather at the church. The family has requested that donations may be made in her memory to the Community Hospice House or Home Health & Hospice Care, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060.
