John "Jack" W. Reynolds, PhD, 62, of Bemidji, MN, passed away Monday, April 4, 2011, with his family by his side in Phoenix, AZ.
A Celebration of Jack's life will be held at 10 am Saturday, April 16, 2011 at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Bemidji with Father Vincent Miller officiating. Visitation will be Friday April 15, 2011 from 5-8pm at Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji with a prayer service immediately to follow at 8 pm and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment will be at the Frohn Eastside Cemetery in Bemidji.
Jack was born on November 21, 1948 in New York City, NY to John and Marcella Reynolds.
In 1952, his family moved from New York to Wisconsin where he later met and married his loving wife, Patricia Hirsch in 1969. Jack and Pat welcomed two girls, Bridget and Molly into their family.
From early on, Jack had a passion for education. He began college at UW Milwaukee and went on to graduate at the UW Madison with his PhD. Upon Jack's graduation, Jack and Pat moved their family to Bemidji, MN where Jack began working as a Professor of Education at Bemidji State University where he stayed for the next 28 years ending his career as the Chair of the Education Department. He received the Distinguished Teacher Award in 1989. His love for educating, guiding and mentoring others never ceased.
Jack was actively involved in various State of Minnesota Education committees, Minnesota Reading Association, he was co-chair with his wife of the United Way in 2004, North Country Regional Hospital Foundation Board member, Co-founder of Cancer, Concerns and Connections and served on the Sanford/MeritCare Board of Directors for 9 years. Of all Jack's involvements, spending time with his family is what he cherished the most.
Jack is survived by his wife, Pat; 2 daughters: Bridget (David) Tews and Molly (Les) Bragg; 5 Grandchildren: Jack, Madelyn, Connie, Grace and Michael; 3 Brothers: Bob (Sandy) Reynolds, Rocky (Crisse) Reynolds, Tim (Carolyn) Reynolds; 4 Sisters: Maureen (Bud) Bakken, Eileen Reynolds, Peggy (Bill) Neilio, Kathy (Bruce) Heming; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Ann (Binder) Reynolds and father, John Nicholas Reynolds and one unborn grandchild.
