David "Mac" McDonald, 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 8, 1956, in Homestead, PA to the late Thomas and Mildred McDonald, Mac was a longtime and faithful member of Saints Martha and Mary Parish. He graduated from Steel Valley High School in 1974 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business/marketing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1978. He dedicated an astonishing 45 years to his career at Wesco.
A proud father and grandfather, Mac was always their number one fan. Whether coaching from the sidelines, cheering from the bleachers, sitting front row at the theater, or rooting for his grandson's baseball games from afar, he was a constant source of encouragement. Mac will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of the beach, and passion for his yard, referred to as his back 40. Mac always had a plan and a system that would ensure things ran smoothly and efficiently. He was fiercely loyal, maintaining friendships from high school and college, generously offering his time to help others, and being the life of every party. Every Christmas, we all looked forward to his "surprised" reaction to receiving his favorite bottle of Scotch from his father-in-law. Along with his brothers-in-law, Mac was an original member of "Outlaw Construction" (You screw it up, we fix it!) - the guys will carry on and make you proud!
Along with his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his sister, Cherie Magdic, and his father-in-law, James Botti. He is survived by his beloved wife and friend of 44 years, Diane; his children, Lindsay (Gene) Gamache, Shawn McDonald, and Haley McDonald; his grandchildren, Remy Gamache, Louie Mac Gamache, and Brody McDonald; his sister, Jeannette (Karl) Koren; his brother, Tim (Linda) McDonald; brother-in-law Jim Magdic as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Mac's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends during his battle with cancer. A special thank you to Walt and Kate Hunter for their unwavering love and assistance, and Mac's IUP friends for helping to maintain the back 40! We never imagined he would lose this fight, and he fought bravely. He will be profoundly missed by all who loved him.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, Sts. Martha and Mary Parish, 2554 Wildwood Road, Allison Park, PA 15101.
