Joan A. Jacques
March 31, 1925 - October 7, 2021
Green Bay - Joan Angela (Zehren) Jacques of Green Bay, WI was born to this life on March 31, 1925 just in time to avoid being an "April Fool." She has passed onto eternal life on Thursday, October 7, 2021 back into the arms of her loving husband Howard Jacques who passed on 10/02/2020.
Joan spent her childhood moving from cheese factory to cheese factory as the family grew. She was the eldest daughter born to Leo V. and Agnes (Loughrin) Zehren who are awaiting her return home in heaven. She indeed was a cheese maker's daughter, and helped guide and raise her six siblings. The final Zehren family move was to Bonduel, WI where they established Tracey Corners Cheese Factory. Cecil, WI is where she continued to grow, spending time at Shawano Lake at the family cottage, "Just A Mere Cabin." There was rarely a Sunday that family wasn't found in Cecil and Shawano Lake for playful Sunday gatherings. Joan graduated from Shawano High School before heading to Madison, WI to study at Edgewood College.
While Joan was working at Wisconsin Public Service, she was set up with Howard on a blind date after he came home from WWII. A tennis match at Fisk Park and a meal at Krolls East were thoroughly enjoyed. No car at the time, they walked from the west side to east side of town. After Howard showed up at work to walk her home on more than one occasion, she gave in to his baby blue eyes and charm. Married in 1948, Joan and Howard have been celebrating love, compassion, charity, and humility for over 72 years.
How many people do you know that are in the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame? Well let me introduce you to the Knitting Wonder Joan! She IS indeed in the Hall of Fame for her service of knitting hundreds of green and gold baby caps for St. Vincent Hospital so each baby born could start life as a Packer Backer. She knew there were good and bad days in football, but nothing prayers and a prayer candle on game day couldn't help. Go Pack Go was her chant and an occasional Oh Shoot.
She certainly had a good sense of humor and quick wit. She loved to stay on top of pop culture in order to hang with the kids and understand them all the way to the day she left us. She was a cool Aunt and Grandma. She had a genuine interest and unique interest in all whom she met, and each person truly felt they mattered, were loved, and were amazing.
After all seven of the children were off to school, Joan returned to the workforce. She worked at Sears Roebuck, & Co. in the catalogue and customer service department. True to form, she would shockingly say she was a 'call girl' and then wait for a look and then a smile.
Joan and Howard were lifetime members of St. Patrick's Parish in Green Bay. Together they served the community and were part of the renowned and loved kitchen team. It is through their faith that they raised seven children and prepared each for their own unique journey.
Joan's legacy is etched in the hearts of family and friends. Joan and Howard leave behind seven children who miss them and cherish their life lessons: Daniel, Omaha, NE; Barbara, Manawa, WI; Lawrence (Kathleen) Oro Valley, AZ; Kenneth (Laurie) Green Bay, WI; Robert (Michelle L.) Cecil, WI; Michelle (Ginger) Alexandria, VA; and J. Howard (Nancy) Hobart, WI.
She was the proud Grandmother, Grammy to13 Grands: Renee (Daniel) Haas, Rochelle (Andy) VanCaster, Michel (Julie) Jacques, Joshua (Jamie) Jacques, Anthony Jacques, Angeli (Jeff) Jacques-Thyrion, Brianna (Andy) Yanke, Rebecca Jacques, Jonathan Jacques, Ian (Leslie) Brown, Emmy Brown, Alexander John (Sara) Hamilton, and Beaux Myers (significant other Emily Minton). These grandchildren continue the legacy for another generation with 14 great grandchildren.
Joan is further survived by her siblings, Leo and Janet Zehren, John and Ruth Zehren, Kate and Harry Mueller, Peggy Zehren, and John Schelendich.
Preceded in death and awaiting her arrival are her beloved husband of 72 years, Howard E Jacques, her parents, Mr. Leo V. and Agnes (Loughrin) Zehren, and in-laws Mr. Ernest and Olive (Sorenson) Jacques. She will be joining her siblings, sisters, Marybeth (Zehren) Shelendich, Virginia (Mularz) Zehren; bothers, Roger Zehren, Vincent Zehren; and many aunts and uncles. She will reunite with two babies who did not get the opportunity to experience the unconditional love of Joan and Howard.
Having the honor of escorting their grandmother to reunite with her life-long love, Howard are her grandsons Joshua Jacques, Anthony Jacques, Michel Jacques, Alexander John Hamilton, Beaux Myers, and Jonathan Jacques (Pall Bearers)
When a thank you is never enough, add "Love You" Darcy and Joe, cherished family, neighbors and friends near and far.
Visitation will be at Blaney Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 24. Visitation will be Monday, October 25 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 211 N. Maple Ave., from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Burial will follow the mass at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Joan's name to benefit the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in Manitowoc.
A life well lived in humility, grace and faith.
