Irene M. Stanke, age 84, passed away on July 19, 2000, at River Pines Center in Whiting, WI. Services held at Boston Funeral Home, Deacon Bob Hensen officiating. Cremation followed and her ashes were buried at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Mrs. Stanke was born April 19, 1916, in Stevens Point, WI, a daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Kizewski) Dziekan.
She was married to Wilfred "Bill" Stanke on Feb. 20, 1942, in Pewaukee. He died Feb. 14, 1998. She worked for Sentry Insurance, the Stevens Point Public Library, M&I Bank and then the Portage County Land Description Department for 16 years before retiring in May 1980.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Jerem 1031, where she was a past treasurer, a longtime secretary, historian and won a state award for a CDA scrapbook. As the secretary for the Emerson High School Class of 1934, she was active as a co-organizer of class reunions. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Susan (Marc) Kramer, Stevens Point, Mary Ann Allen, San Diego, CA, Louise (Thomas) Newby, Morrison, CO, and Nancy (Roy) Kerr, Waupaca; one son, Richard (Anita), Arlington VA; three sisters, Verona Bobrowitz, Brookfield, Mary (Karl) Braus, Beverly Hills, MI, and Laura Pehoski, Stevens Point; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one great-grandchild.
