Daryl E. Kramer, Minot, died on Sunday, January 22, 2017 in a Minot assisted living center.
Daryl was born on July 27, 1922, in Wabek, ND, a son of Emanuel and Hattie (Hauge) Kramer. He attended school and graduated from Plaza, ND, High School.
Daryl was united in marriage to Dolores ?Lorry? VanEeckhout on January 3, 1950. The couple lived in Minot where they raised their 10 children. Many of the activities in which he was engaged reflect his involvement in the lives of his children. He was a member of the Parent Teacher Association at St. Leo?s and Lincoln Elementary schools. He was also involved in a myriad of activities at Bishop Ryan High School, for which he and Lorry were recognized in October of 2016 with their induction into the Bishop Ryan Hall of Fame.
On March 18, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army. Daryl?s service spanned about 10 years. From 1943 until 1946, he was assigned to the 65th, 9th, and 1st Infantry Divisions, in combat duty throughout Europe and was awarded a Bronze Star. From 1946 until 1949 he was assigned to the 3rd Army as a Provost Sergeant with the War Crimes Tribunal at Dachau, Germany. He was first assistant to the Provost Marshall and was responsible for all security connected with the war crimes trials; this included the security of war criminals, foreign country representatives and U.S. forces. From 1948 until 1953, he was assigned as the unit advisor of the U.S. Army Reserves in Minot, ND.
After leaving the service, he became a salesman for Frosaker Motor Company in Minot. In 1961, he became employed by the North Dakota State Highway Department where he was appointed Administrative Manager. In 1981, he became an Administrative Aide to then United States Senator Quentin Burdick retiring in 1992.
Daryl was once a member of the Minot City Council. He was also a member of the Minot Senior Citizens League and the Minot Commission on Aging. He was once a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and St. Leo?s Catholic Church.
Daryl is survived by his children; Colleen Ronning, Rapid City, SD, Joanne Kramer, Seattle, WA, Charles (Nancy) Kramer, Minot, Barbara Kramer, Grand Forks, ND, Mary Lou (Patrick) Neault, Killeen, TX, Bruce (Lisa) Kramer, Minot, Bryan (Cindy) Kramer, Minot, Tim (Chris) Kramer, Minot, Julie (Loren) Schwab, Bismarck, ND, and Mark (Michelle) Kramer, Minot; grandchildren, Matthew (Keli) Kramer, Jessie Kramer, Beth (Isaac) Odahlen, Zachary (Susan) Ronning, Maggie (Jake) Williams, Isaac Schwab, Gretta Schwab, Jacob Schwab, Manny Neault, Ben Kramer, Hannah (Dillon) Langerud, Eric Kramer, Eli Kramer, Sylvie Kramer, Evan Kramer, Mason Kramer, Jonah Kramer, Eden Kramer and Nora Kramer; great grandchildren, Emma Kramer, Haley Kramer, Conor Odahlen, McKenna Odahlen, Fletcher Ronning and Roman Williams. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lorry, his parents, a son in law, Ron Ronning, brothers, Richard Kramer and Robert Kramer, sisters, Lucille Broschofsky, Betty Linss and Isabelle Bredenkamp.
