Velda Jensen, "Auntie Bo," passed away peacefully in her home in Vallejo on Feb. 3, following a lingering illness, just three months shy of her 93rd birthday.
She was born May 3, 1919 in Downy, Bannock County, Idaho, to Elven Benjamin Jensen and Mabel Edna Brown Jensen.
Velda was preceded in death by her mother and father; and her sisters, Laureen Jensen Wygal and Elvedna Jensen Biegler.
"Auntie Bo" is survived by her nieces, Janet (Roger) Gamache of Ft. Jones, Calif.; Karen (Tom) Wyatt of Stevenson Ranch, Calif., Susan Blatz (Enno Bower) of Concord, Calif., and Diane Wygal also of Concord; and a number of close cousins in California, Utah, and Idaho.
Velda spent most of her childhood in Santa Rosa, Calif., graduating from high school there in 1939. She was active in sports, and sang in the school choral, awakening her lifelong love of music. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Central Atlantic States Mission, where she used her singing talent to good advantage.
The family moved to Vallejo in 1939. She worked as a dental assistant from 1945 until 1998. In 1969, the National Dental Assistants Association presented her with a 25-year certificate in recognition of her excellent work.
Her singing talent was realized when she was selected as the featured soloist for the stage show, "Fractured Follies of 1965."
The family wishes to acknowledge those giving of their time and energy in addition to the valuable help Velda received from Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, CA 94589.
