GLADYS DURANCEAU OBITUARY
Duranceau, Gladys
Gladys Rose Duranceau, age 92, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Care Partner's Assisted Living in Schofield with her family by her side.
Gladys was born in Ramona, South Dakota, on March 12, 1922 to Fred and Helen (Wendorf) Seehafer. The family moved to the Wausau area when she was 4 years old. She was confirmed and married at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where she was a lifetime member. She was the oldest of seven children.
She worked at Wausau Memorial Hospital as a dietician, the Wausau Nursing Home, and at Marathon Battery. After retiring she volunteered at United Cerebral Palsy for many years, and also the North Central Health Care Center in the Talent Shop.
Gladys had a passion for crocheting. She made afghans and doilies for all her children, grandchildren and extended family. She was a devoted mother to her six children; she loved reading, gardening, and cooking in her younger years. She is remembered best for her mustard pickles, fruitcake,'Lazy-Daisy' cake, and chocolate chip cookies. She also enjoyed watching sports-baseball, football, and golf on T.V.
She is survived by her children: Sandra Gottschalk, Holly, MI; Jean (Terry) Back, Mosinee; Lou (Lee) Jazdzewski, Madison; LaVerne Joslin, Rhinelander; Christine Duranceau, Stevens Point; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by siblings: William Seehafer and Marvin (Norma) Seehafer, sisters-in-law Donna Seehafer and Judy Seehafer, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Helen Seehafer; husband, Alfred R. Duranceau; son, Lyle A. Duranceau; siblings; Alice (Leo) Zdzeblowski; Emil Seehafer, Herb (Jan) Seehafer, and Robert Seehafer; sister-in-law, Kelly Seehafer.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 3, 4:00-8:00 PM at John J Buettgen Funeral Home, Schofield; and on Wednesday, June 4, 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St., Wausau. A memorial service will follow at 10:30, with the burial at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. All are invited to return to the church for lunch. Rev. Philip Schneider of St. Paul's will be officiating.
