  Died: Andrew J. Susa, 92, formerly of Springdale, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home in Hollidaysburg. He was born Dec. 18, 1916, in Fairbank, son of Andrew and Mary (Belej) Susa. He married Alice Elizabeth Murin on Sept. 11, 1938. Together they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in September 2008. Mr. Susa attended Springdale High School and was a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church. He retired from Duquesne Light Co., Colfax, in 1981. Prior to that, he had worked in the Harwick Mines and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Krivan Hall Association, Springdale, and the First Catholic Slovak Union, Jednota. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, dancing, gardening, and spending time with his family. Mr. Susa is survived by his daughter, Geraldine (Gerry) Susa Murray and her husband, Dennis, of Altoona; granddaughters, Denise Caplan and her husband, Robert, of Conshohocken, and Wendy Cowan and her husband, Daniel, of Altoona; and five great-grandchildren, Michael, Amanda and Andrew Caplan, and Daniel and Matthew Cowan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Alice E. Susa, on Dec. 29, 2008; his five brothers, John, Stephen, Albert, William, and Michael Susa; and sister, Sophia Susa Tabis. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Charles B. Jarvie Funeral Home, Inc., 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 750 Pittsburgh St., Springdale. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Bakerstown Road, Tarentum.
