Died:
Kathleen Stonis Susa, 79, of Allegheny Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. Kathy was a daughter of the late George W. and Genevieve (Seanor) Stonis of Springdale. A 1963 graduate of Springdale High School, she met the love of her life there, Lawrence J. Susa, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. The two of them enjoyed spending time with their children, Maegan M. (Douglas W. Bonnett) and Bradley L. Susa (Sarah K. Susa); and their grandchildren, Joslyn, Jaclyn, and John Filo, and Otto Susa. Kathy loved the outdoors, and you would find her on her bike on one of the many trails nearby, on the boat in the summer, and on the ski slopes in the winter, all usually with her family and friends. Her true passion was gardening and spending countless hours in her yard tending to her flowers. Kathy was a teacher at Highlands School District for 34 years. First she was a home economics teacher focused on sewing and sharing her sense of style with her students. Midway through her career, she went back for an additional master's degree so she could transition her focus to being a guidance counselor. While teaching, Kathy was a pioneer of empowering women by creating a symposium known as Perspectives on Women, which brought speakers into the community to encourage personal growth and strength in women. Kathy and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world together and vacationing with their kids and grandkids. To all who knew her, her infectious laugh and boundless love for life left a mark on our hearts that will never fade. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Kathy's memory to continue to develop local bike trails: Armstrong Trails, P.O. Box 777 Kittanning, PA 16201. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 30, in the DUSTER FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 347 East 10th Ave., Tarentum 15084, 724-224-1526, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, with Pastor Validia Giddens, officiating. Interment will be private. Visitdusterfh.com
