POMERLEAU, Joffre On June 15, 2011, Joffre Pomerleau of Edmonton passed away at the age of 95 in his sleep at the Sturgeon Hospital. Born in St. Paul, Alberta, Joffre was the sixth child in a family of ten. His parents, Emile and Graziella (Bisson) Pomerleau, were originally from St. Marie de Beauce, Quebec. His siblings were Jules Emile, Florence (Stinson), Paul, Armand, Eliane (Preville), Roland, Arthur, Claire (Skitch). His sister Madeleine resides in St. Paul with her husband, Didier Gamache. His large extended family remained was very important to him throughtout his life. At 13, Joffre was sent to Junior at St. Jean to acquire a classical education where he remained for seven years, eventually went on to qualify as a teacher. His teaching strengths were the maths and sciences which he taught at College St. Jean and later at AVC (retired in 1991). As a member of the Oblate order he was one of the main negotiators that brought the College under the auspices of the University of Alberta. He also co-authored a high school mathematics and science text for AVC (now Norquest). He also served as an Econome for the Western Provinces of the Oblates in the 1960's. In his youth, part of his enjoyment of college life was playing sports and coaching student hockey. In his retirement, he continued his interest in hockey and started painting and was an avid bird watcher. He was kind, so very supportive, and an important integral part of our family. His lively wit and friendly presence will be sorely missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held for Joffre on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 12810 - 111 Avenue Edmonton, AB.
