Viola Portelance (nee McGillis) January 2, 1931 - March 15, 2022 Viola Portelance (nee McGillis), 91 years who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Elizabeth Center surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of 59 years of Rene Portelance predeceased. Loving mother of Rick (Paula), Ronald predeceased, Delina Boivin (Rheal), Colette Troscinski (Eugene predeceased), Gerry (Laurie), Jeanny Lafrance (Dan), Shirley (Joey Rienguette) both predeceased and Johnny predeceased. Cherished memere of 20 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren and predeceased by her granddaughter Tanya. Dear daughter of Dan and Natalie (Kirwan) McGillis both predeceased. Dear sister of Marion (Gerry) Gamache, Finley, Stanley (Bernadette), Delina, Lillian, Malcolm, and Allen all predeceased, Margerite (Jim) Pigeau, Christina (Robert predeceased) Ranta, Carmen (Rick predeceased) Boivin and Leona (Norm) Plante both predeceased. Sadly missed by many loving nieces, nephews and their families. Viola worked for the Sudbury Catholic School Board was a custodian for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She loved to walk (people would call her the road runner). Viola really enjoyed baking and her crust were well known by everyone. She enjoyed watching hockey and her Detroit Red Wings and Markstay Bruins. Viola enjoyed playing cards. Her house in Markstay was like Grand Central Station, anyone could pop in, and she would make sure you had something sweet to eat. Viola was an accomplished softball player; she was a very good pitcher. She was a member of the Women's Institute, Catholic Women's League, and the Markstay Dart Club. Resting at the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St. (Friends may call 4-8pm Thursday, March 24, 2022 with parish prayers at 4pm Thursday). Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church, 39 Walford Rd., on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 11am. Cremation with interment in the family plot at St. Marc's Cemetery in Markstay. In lieu of flowers, donations to Inner City Home or Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
