INDIAN ORCHARD - Alvin (Vin) C. Laprade was called home by his Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday morning after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Easthampton, he lived in Indian Orchard for the past 40 years. A graduate of St. Michael's High School, Northampton, and Manchester Community College, CT, he was a 37 year mechanical engineer for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Alvin was a member of New Life Baptist Church, E. Longmeadow, where he also served as choir director. He was a charter member and former president of Pioneer Valley Camping - Chapter 8. He leaves his beloved wife of 50 years, Joan (Raymond) Laprade; 3 sons, Tom, Jim and Chuck Laprade; 2 daughters, Deborah Savola and Lisa McRobbie; 2 brothers, Rusty and Larry Laprade; 4 sisters, Aline Lafontaine, Annette Gamache, Renee Erush and Nan Kelleher; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Ray Laprade and 2 sisters, Jacqueline Ledoux and Joan Dzialo. Family and friends may meet at New Life Baptist Church, 317 Westwood Ave., E. Longmeadow, Thursday at 10 a.m. for Vin's funeral service. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Memorial contributions may be made to Noble Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 77 Mill St., Westfield, MA or New Life Baptist Church, 317 Westwood Ave., E. Longmeadow, MA 01028.
