LEONIDAS GAGNE -- September 18, 1997 -- Woonsocket -- Born in Lincoln, a son of the late Adelard and Leonide (Degrande) Gagne, he lived in Woonsocket most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Gagne was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 383 in Pascoag and a member of Fairmount Post 85, American Legion. He was a board member of the Woonsocket Senior Citizens and was honored as the Senior Citizen of the Year in 1996. He was a volunteer for the Rhode Island School for the Deaf in Providence and the Bourdon Boulevard Crusader Program, Woonsocket. A HAM radio operator, he directed the Rhode Island chapter of the Military Affiliated Radio Service Mars program. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Alfred J. Gagne of Smithfield, Leo J. Gagne of Cumberland and Roland J. Gagne of Burrillville; a daughter, Estele M. Bubble of Woonsocket; three brothers, Joseph Gagne of Enfield, Conn., and Nazaire Gagne and Adrien Gagne, both of Lincoln; three sisters, Emelda Gamache and Cecile Allard, both of Albion, and Helen Jutras of Pawtucket; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Theodore Gagne.The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Egidio DiPardo and Sons Funeral Home, 75 Harris Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Holy Family Church, South Main Street. Burial with military honors will be in St. Jean the Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham, Mass.
