FALL RIVER -- Emma D. (Caron) Newman, 82, of Rodman Street, Fall River, died at home, Wednesday, April 22, 1998, after an illness. She was the wife of Richard Norman Newman. Mr. and Mrs. Newman had been married 55 years. A lifelong resident of Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Jean Baptiste and Eleanore (St.Laurent) Caron. She owned and operated Caron's Market, Fall River and was employed by Rose's Beauty Shop, Fall River as a hairdresser for many years. She was a lifelong communicant of Saint Jean Baptiste Church, Fall River. Mrs. Newman was a talented seamstress, making her own clothing. Other hobbies included woodworking and carpentry. Survivors include her widower; a daughter, Nancy Irene Smith, of Cleveland, Texas; two sisters, Eva Gamache, of Taunton and Irene Caron, of Fall River; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Leo Caron, Albert Caron, Arthur Caron, John Caron, Rose Ouellette, Laura Galvin and Alice Ouellette. A private funeral was Saturday from the Auclair Funeral Home, with a funeral Mass in Saint Jean Baptiste Church, Stafford Road, Fall River.
