- [S5] Obituary.
It is with great sadness that the Setlakwe family announces the death of Mr. Richard Setlakwe. He passed away on July 22, 2021 at the age of 87, while he was fishing for salmon surrounded by his friends. Richard was the husband of the late Carmen Languerand and lived in Thetford Mines, Quebec, where he was born on January 13, 1934.
Richard owned, with his brother Raymond, the A. Setlakwe Ltée stores, as well as the Silhouette stores. He was also a great sportsman, passionate about skiing, salmon fishing, hockey, golf and good Bordeaux red wines. He had an infectious smile, was deadpan and always knew how to make the most of life.
He has made unforgettable trips with his family and good friends, including the famous ski trips to Europe! Above all, he adored his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter.
He is survived by his children: Mark (Kelly McGuire), the late Michael, the late Andrew (Guylaine Gamache) and Lisa (Nathan Gorall).
He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Jenna, Danielle, Alex Ann, John, Olivia, Oscar and her great-granddaughter Zoey.
From the Setlakwe family, he was the son of the late Calil Setlakwe and the late Emelia Jarjour, brother of Raymond (Yvette Bourque) and Stephen (Colette Talbot).
He will also be sadly missed by his nephews and nieces, many friends, clients and colleagues in the ski and fashion industry as well as all the employees of A. Setlakwe Ltée, in particular the team of the ski shop, with whom he had so much fun and for whom he felt a lot of affection.
The family will receive condolences on Monday August 2 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., as well as Tuesday August 3 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Gamache & Nadeau funeral center, 590, rue St-Alphonse Sud , Thetford Mines. Note, however, that a period of 10 minutes is allocated per visitor in order to respect the instructions on grouping of people. As requested by Public Health, wearing a mask is compulsory.
A liturgy of the word will be held on Tuesday, August 3 at 11 a.m. at Saint-Alphonse Church in Thetford Mines. You will also be able to see this celebration live or recorded by clicking on Broadcast Funeraweb on our site in the obituary of Mr. Setlakwe.
