  John Gilmer (b. 1812, d. 1875)he was born in Ireland and was a starch maker then left because of the potato famine. he then went to scotland and met ellen dunbar, then she died so he came to the US with his two sons. He got a farm in Richmond, Indiana and trained horses but died when he was trampled by one. source: grave records.
