Joan C. (Wakelee) Monroe age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on September 27, 2021. She was born on April 13, 1935 in Wolcott, CT to John and Janet (Morrell) Wakelee and was a long time resident of East Longmeadow. She received her associate?s degree from the University of Bridgeport, CT and worked as a dental hygienist alongside Dr. James Brown at his private practice in East Longmeadow for more than 25 years. Joan is predeceased by her husband and high school sweetheart Robert (Bob) Monroe, who passed in February of 2020. Joan and Bob loved spending their winters in FL, driving to Melbourne Beach or Indialantic where they spent the cold New England winters basking in the Florida sunshine, and then returning to East Longmeadow around Mother?s Day. They had many friends in Florida and enjoyed entertaining visitors at their southern home. Joan enjoyed working on her gardens at her homes and passed the time creating needle-work pieces, including crochet and cross-stitch. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Shade (Eric) of Marlborough, MA, and Karen Morgan (Edward) of Seminole, FL; a son Mark Monroe (Sharon) of Louisville, Colorado; five grandchildren, Justin Gamache, Michelle Gamache, Coleen Monroe-Knight, Delaney Monroe, Jake Monroe; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel Gamache, Amelia Ortiz, Rhys Monroe-Knight, Finnegan Monroe; a brother John Wakelee III (Judith) and their children Jody and Janeen, along with extended family members. Services are entrusted to Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation and will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
