DORRANCE, SR., ROBERT GREEN ISLAND - Robert E. Dorrance, Sr., 75, died peacefully at his home on Friday, December 09, 2011. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Burns Dorrance and Judy Hourigan Dorrance. A native and lifelong resident of Green Island, son of the late Samuel and Josephine Weinbrecht Dorrance, he was a graduate of Heatly High School. Bob served in the US Air Force in the 1950's and had been employed by the former Behr Manning Company, the Bendix Corporation and then the Ford Motor Company in Green Island, retiring in 1987. He had been a communicant of the former St. Joseph's Church in Green Island and was a member of the Lansingburgh Veterans Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Lansingburgh. While in high school and the Air Force, Bob had played soccer and softball. He was an avid baseball and football fan and a great supporter of the Mets and the Giants. He is the loving father of Scott (Melanie) Dorrance of Schenectady, Linda Kelley of Watervliet, Jeffrey (Nancy Kipp) of Green Island, Jennifer (Rodney Prefore) Dorrance of Watervliet, Jessica (Rick) Gamache of Cohoes and Robert Dorrance, Jr. of Hollywood, CA; brother of Jean O'Brien of The Villages, Florida; and nephew of the late Frances Weinbrecht. Bob is also survived by five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 15 Tech Valley Drive, East Greenbush, NY 12061. Published in The Record on December 10, 2011
