SALBENBLATT, Dorothy G. of Saginaw, Michigan. Dorothy G. Salbenblatt, age 94, a lifelong Saginaw resident, passed away peacefully at Shattuck Manor September 19, 2010. Dorothy Hubinger was born in Saginaw, Michigan July 7, 1916 the daughter of the late Leonard G. and Clara E. (Abraham) Hubinger. She married Carl F. Salbenblatt June 27, 1937 and they were happily married for 58 years until his death January 11, 1996. Her family was her greatest joy and she is survived by her two children, James A. (Carol) Salbenblatt, MD and Jean D. Klug. She was the proud grandmother of J. Matthew (Marilyn Smith, MD) Salbenblatt, MD, Anne E. (Robert) Brown, Leslie C. (Salbenblatt) (Kevin) Gamache, MD, James R. (Lori) Klug, Michael P. (Kristin) Klug and Lori J. (Karl) Vacik and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Florence Smith. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her brother, Walter L. Hubinger; son-in-law, Robert P. Klug and a great-grandson, Chase Klug. Dorothy had a strong commitment to her family, friends and faith. She loved her role as homemaker, as she prepared special meals for her family. Her grandchildren fondly recall that Omi was never without chocolate treats in her purse and her cookie jar was never empty. Christmas was a special time as she baked numerous varieties of cookies and delighted in decorating her tree. Dorothy's hobbies included gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting. The summer vacations at Owl Lake were always fondly recalled. Although recently in frail health, Dorothy never lost her smile, sense of humor, perseverance and determination. She was one of the surviving members of the Chatterbox Club, a group of women who maintained a lifelong friendship, and were featured in a Saginaw News article. As her friends aged, she was a natural caregiver who assisted them with visits, support and transportation. Her family sincerely thanks the caregivers at Shattuck Manor and the Heartland Hospice Team for their loving care and support, which added greatly to Dorothy's comfort. The funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway. Rev. Mark C. Buckert will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Mausoleum.
