Wirtz, 81, of Esko died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Knapp Memorial Hospital in Weslaco, Texas. He was born Sept. 6, 1917 in Callaway, Minn., to the late Otto and Anne (O'Conner) Wirtz. He owned and operated Wirtz 66 Service in Esko for many years, retiring in 1980. Since 1985, he and his wife, Ruth, spent their winters in Donna, Texas. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet, and a member of the Esko Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Joseph and Vincent; and a grandson, Kristofer. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; six children, Thomas (Martha) Reller, William (Karla) Wirtz, Calvin (Mary) Wirtz, all of Esko, Daniel (Claudia) Wirtz of Circle Pines, Minn., Cathleen (Terry) Anderson of Fergus Falls, Minn., and JoAnn (Jay) Gamache of Cloquet; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Marvel of Hopkins, Minn., and Delores Wirtz of Spokane, Wash. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today in Nelson Funeral Care with a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr.
