Deceased Name: Robert "Bob" John Carlson Sr.
RALEIGH -- Robert "Bob" John Carlson, Sr., 80, passed away Monday, December 9, 2002. He was born December 19, 1921 in Superior, Wisconsin and proudly served his country as a Marine officer in both WWII and Korea. He graduated with a degree in Commerce from the University of NC at Chapel Hill in 1948. There he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and also met his future wife, Margaret Burk, whom he married in 1958. He was a Sales Manager for the L. G. Balfour Jewelry Company in Attleboro, Mass. for many years. In 1966 he and his family relocated to Raleigh where he and his wife owned North Hills Book and Stationary for nearly 20 years. After retiring in 1986, he enjoyed cooking, writing poetry and working around the house. Mr. Carlson was a Mason and a Shriner.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Christina Carlson; his two older siblings, Archie Carlson and Mary Carlson Gamache; a niece, Judy Gamache Brodazinski.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Burk Carlson; his two children, Robert John Carlson, Jr. of Youngsville and Christina Isabella Carlson, of Raleigh; his brother, Kenneth G. Carlson of Superior, Wisconsin; his sister, Gladys Carlson Blair and husband, Bus of St. Louis, MO.
A visitation will be held at North Raleigh Funeral Home, Thursday, December 12th, 7-9 p.m.
A memorial service will be on Friday, December 13 at 2 p.m. at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Christmas Share Program at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
