GREENFIELD -- Alexander "Alec" A. Pupek, 80, of 107 Meridian St., died Thursday (3-4-10) at the Buckley HealthCare Center.
He was born in Greenfield on April 17, 1929, the son of Frank and Aleksandra (Banach) Pupek. He was a graduate of Greenfield High School and had been a lifelong resident of Greenfield.
Alec was a machinist for the Greenfield Tap & Die Corp. for 25 years, retiring in 1992.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Des Moines in the Korean War and attained the rank of radioman third class.
He was a member of the White Eagles Society.
Alec owned and raced harness horses. He was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, the former Nancy H. Falcon; a daughter, Alanda J. Gamache and her husband Stephen and a grandson, Garrett, all of Northfield; two brothers, Chester Pupek and his wife Claire of South Hadley and Edward Pupek of Las Vegas, Nev., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
