Stanley Llewellyn Sweet Jr., 70, of Cloquet, Minn., died on Monday, Dec. 5, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Minot, N.D., on Oct. 3, 1935 to Stanley and Lillie (Hunstad) Sweet. He graduated from Starbuck High School in Starbuck, Minn., in 1953. After working in the local creamery for a year he entered the military. Stan served proudly in the Air Force as an Instrument Flight Operations instructor from 1954-58 in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan. Upon his release from the military he attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D., where he earned his degree in Pharmacy in May of 1962. He worked as a pharmacist for over 40 years, including 15 years with Walgreen's in Duluth and most recently with the Medicine Shoppe in Cloquet. He married Patricia Erickson on June 3, 1961, in Long Prairie, Minn. Stan loved to spend time with his family camping and fishing. Stan was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Cloquet. Upon retiring he became involved in the church council and served as the treasurer for the past six years. He also served in the ELCA's Northeastern Minnesota Synod Council. Stan was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia; two daughters, Naomi (Bruce) Orehek of Omaha, Neb., and Anita (Waleed Ulhaq) Gamache of Rosemount, Minn.; three grandchildren, Chris and Kylie Orehek and Shelby Gamache; sister, Marvis Dahlin of Lakeland, Minn.; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. VISITATION:5 to 8 Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 in Handevidt Funeral Home, 900 Washington Ave, Cloquet, and will continue on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 12th & Doddridge Ave, Cloquet. Following the service a dinner will be served in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet following the dinner.
