Deceased Name: Roland Morneau Jr.
Roland E. Morneau Jr., 69, of Londonderry, died June 16, 2012 after a brief illness, surrounded by family, at the Community Hospice House of Merrimack. He was born April 12, 1943 in Berlin, NH, son of the late Roland E. Sr. and Reseda (Lebel) Morneau.
He was raised and educated in the Berlin area and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Colby College, and Boston College School of Law.
Mr. Morneau was a member of the Notre Dame and Colby College varsity hockey teams. He was a Zeta Psi Fraternity member at Colby College. He graduated from Boston College School of Law, Cum Laude, in 1972, and was a member of the Order of the Coif.
Mr. Morneau served from February 1966 to January 1969 as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Springfield, flagship of the 6th fleet.
He was an attorney and partner with Grinnell & Bureau Attorneys at Law of Derry and an associate of Attorney Brian Germaine from 1972 to 2011.
Mr. Morneau was a member of the Londonderry Planning Board from 1979 to 1985.He was proud of his service with the Public Protection Committee, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the New Hampshire Bar Association for his efforts.
He enjoyed hiking, biking, tennis and other outdoor activities, and was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club's 4000 Club for successfully climbing all of the 4000-foot peaks in New Hampshire.
Family members include his wife of 45 years, Janet (Morse) Morneau of Londonderry; a daughter and her husband, Tracey and Ryan Gamache of Bedford; one grandchild, Alex Gamache; a brother, Denis Morneau, of Burke, Vt.; one sister, Suzanne Morneau Francisco, of Kirkland, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Tomlinson.
After cremation, memorial calling hours were held June 19 at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, June 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry.
