of Leominster, First National Store retiree; 93
LEOMINSTER Jeannette (Metivier) Gamache, 93 years old, of Leominster, died September 15th, after a long illness.
She was born October 2, 1915, in Leominster, daughter of Alfred and Rose (Picker) Metivier, and lived in Leominster until retiring in 1972. She and her husband, Edgar then moved to Gulfport, Florida.
Jeannette was employed by the
former Cluett and Peabody Company for several years, and later the First
National Store on Third Street in Leominster. As First National grew, Jeannette was instrumental in helping to open stores in Leominster, Fitchburg and Acton. Her husband managed the store in Clinton, and Jeannette worked as a bookkeeper for First National.
While living in Florida she was active in the New
Comers Club of Gulfport, the Ceramic Club and the Lady's Guild at Holy Family Parish. Jeannette returned to reside in Leominster in 1999. She enjoyed her grandchildren, cats, flower garden, sewing and playing cards.
She leaves her daughter, Elsie Christoforo and her husband, Donald; her granddaughter, Lisa Christoforo and her grandson, Michael Christoforo.
Her husband, Edgar whom she was married 49 years, died in 1982. She was also predeceased by a brother, Alfred.
GAMACHE A memorial mass will be held at
10 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2009 in Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union Street, Leominster. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. Memorial donations in Jeannette's name may be made to Holy Family of Nazareth Building Fund, 750 Union St., Leominster, MA 01453. The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at the Manor on the Hill for their loving care and the
