Timothy "Tim" R. Gamache 1943 - 2021
NEW YORK MILLS - Timothy "Tim" R. Gamache passed away in his sleep on May 19, 2021 after a brief illness, due to complications of diabetes.
Tim was born into a large and loving family in New York Mills on August 20, 1943, the town where he attended school and where he would live for most of his life. Tim was married to Rita (Payne) for 38 years, a union that produced four children.
Tim worked for many years at the Marcy Psychiatric Center and later, at the Utica Psychiatric Center. He also acted as Steward for the CSEA Local 1000 union. Upon retirement, Tim and his then-partner, Ruth Glatt, moved to Florida, where they spent many years enjoying the beautiful weather and ocean views, until Ruth's death in 2011.
Tim was known for his wit, wisdom, honesty, integrity, generosity, kindness and great cooking skills (did anyone ever get that barbecue sauce recipe with the beer in it?) All who had the pleasure of spending time with Tim, realized these good qualities in him right away. He made friends everywhere he went.
Tim was an avid outdoorsman and instilled his love of nature in his children. He enjoyed taking walks along the railroad tracks, camping, hunting, fishing, trapping and the subsequent cooking and grilling of his "take". Pheasant sandwiches and frog legs were never considered a delicacy in his house. Tim and his brothers and later his children, spent countless hours enjoying time in the Adirondacks.
Tim was also a huge Yankees fan, but an even bigger fan of New York Mills Little League and Roback Angels, where his son played baseball.
Tim is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by all his children and their families- Michele (Earl) Blowers, Linda Gamache, Christine (Dave) Ayers and Timothy (Danielle) Gamache, II; and grandchildren, Kyle, Connor, Timothy and Olivia. Tim is also survived by his sister, Mary (aka Mimi) Salvatore.
Tim loved his entire extended family, including many nieces and nephews, sharing a special bond with twins, Richard and Andrew Gamache. Tim is also survived by many friends of family members who blur the lines between the terms "family" and "friend", including Dawn (Korzec) Carpenter, Janie Smithling, William Wills, Patty (Markot) Howland (despite being a Boston Red Sox fan - "Toughest job in the world" he would tell her), Anne-Marie (Chaplo) McElfresh, April (Bramhall) VanBeek, Jason Piekielniak, Pete Dziedzic and Sam Paciello.
Tim was predeceased by his parents, Helen (Soltys) and Norman Gamache; siblings Harlan, Patty, Jack, Bruce and Dave. Tim was also predeceased by his four-legged best friends, Daisy and Sammy and they are surely enjoying a walk with him after all these years.
Tim's family will be having a private celebration of his life at a later date.
