- [S5] Obituary.
08 April 1870 ? Born in Perce on the Gaspe Peninsula, Alfred ARBOUR was the 6th of 13 children of farmer and fisher Edouard ARBOUR and his wife Marie-Genevieve GAMACHE. Alfred himself seems to have been somewhat of a Renaissance Man, as he became Farmer, Fisher, Merchant, and Hotelier, as well as Garage Owner, Boatman, and Restauranteur. On 13 September 1892, Alfred married 18-year old Marie DRISCOLL in Grande-Riviere, QC. Over the next 27 years, they proceeded to have 13 children, 4 daughters and 9 sons ? all of whom were born and baptized in Perce. On 29 April 1903, Alfred purchased the farm once owned by his uncle William ARBOUR and his aunt Marie-Domithilde GAMACHE on Cadastral 412. William had passed away by this time and Domithilde decided to sell the 156 acre farm to her nephew. A book has been written about Alfred and Mary by a grandson. "Alfred ARBOUR et Marie DRISCOLL: deux entrepreneurs de Perce" was written and published in 1996 in Saint-Basile-le-Grand, QC, by Jacques ARBOUR (1946- ), in collaboration with Jean-Maurice ARBOUR (1919-2008), who is the youngest child of Alfred and Marie. This 60 page document is held in the Salle Gagnon in the Montreal Library, call number 338.642 A666aL. Alfred passed away in Perce on 27 March 1940. Marie followed him 17 years later when she died on 28 March 1957. They are responsible for 33 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren
