Jean-Paul Montminy (Brother) 1928-2018 At the Cardinal-Vachon residence in Quebec, on December 23, 2018, at the age of 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep Jean-Paul Montminy. He was the son of the late Adjutor Montminy and the late Marie-Anna Laplante. Lépine Cloutier / ATHOS The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11 am, at Saint-Dominique Church, 175 Grande Allée Ouest, Quebec G1R 2H1. The family and the Dominicans will receive condolences, directly at the church, on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 7 pm to 10 pm, Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10am to 11am. Interment will be at Saint-Hyacinthe Cemetery, 1505 Girouard E., the same day, leaving at 1:30 pm. He was the brother of: late Roger (late Lucienne Grenon), Yolande (late Paul Blais), late Lucille (René Gamache), Thérèse (late Paul Tremblay), late Robert (late Madeleine Bolduc), Mariette (late Dominic Morneau), the late Gertrude (Raymond Guérin), Denise (late Léon Gosselin), Pierre (Micheline Blanchet), Simon (Francine Lavallée), late André (late Suzanne Roy) and Richard (Lucie Caron). He also leaves to mourn many nephews and nieces and many cousins. After joining the Friars Preachers (Dominicans) in 1951 and having been ordained to the priesthood in 1955, he pursued studies in theology at Saulchoir (Paris) and in sociology at Laval University. He began a university career in 1964 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Laval University. He began a tremendous career as a teacher and administrator within the Faculty. Upon his arrival, he took the position of Secretary of the Department to take the lead a few years later. In 1972, he was appointed Associate Dean of Advanced Studies and Faculty Research. From 1977 to 1981, then from 1986 to 1993, he sat on the University Council. Between these two terms, he holds, as the first incumbent, the post of university protector. In 1987, he presided over the election of the rector. A year later, he was named dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Professor Montminy has served on numerous committees, both at Laval University and at major national organizations. He trained a large number of students from all three cycles, while pursuing important research in Quebec religious sociology. He has published numerous articles and participated as an expert in several conferences and seminars. He was a member of major national and international sociology associations. An esteemed humanist and educator, Professor Montminy has marked the intellectual life of his institution and that of society with a remarkable personal and professional commitment. Through his many professional occupations, Jean-Paul Montminy found the time to take on various services within his religious community (head of continuing formation, sub-prior, member of the council of Saint-Dominique Convent of Quebec) in addition to regular preaching at St. Dominic Church. He has always kept a concern for the youngest generations and an affection for his family, especially his nephews and nieces, whom he met with joy at least once a year. His last years were lived at the Cardinal-Vachon residence surrounded by a competent and dedicated staff. May they be thanked!
