Velma M. Smith, 70, 605 W. Depot St, died 9:40 p.m. Friday, Dec 26, 2003, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been admitted Dec. 17.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Charles D. Stoetzel will officiate. Suzanne Golden will be the organist for St. John's Church Funeral Choir.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the church. A parish prayer service will be held 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Velma was born May 6, 1933, to Frank and Hazel (Specht) Baltus in Marshfield. She was a graduate of Saint Joseph's School of Nursing, Marshfield, and St Francis College, Joliet, Ill. She had been employed as a registered nurse for many years at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, where the Smith's lived until moving to Marshfield 2½ years ago. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
She married Lawrence E. Smith on July 14, 1956, at St John's Catholic Church, Marshfield.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, Marshfield; children; two granddaughters; a brother, Vernon (Clara) Baltus, Marshfield; father-in-law, Carl Smith, Rhinelander; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Victor, in infancy, and another brother, Dale Baltus.
Memorials may be designated in her name to Saint Joseph's Hospital Foundation, Marshfield Clinic Foundation, or to St. John's Catholic Church, all in Marshfield.
