Deceased Name: Charles Gilly
Newburgh resident Charles "Red" Gilly died Friday, Dec. 1 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was 87.
Red was a veteran of the Air Force, attaining the rank of Second Lt. Flight Officer, serving from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the Newburgh American Legion and Newburgh Senior Center. Red was formerly from 3 Myrtle Street in Adams, Mass. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and playing cards and pool.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles L. Gilly, in 1964.
Red is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lorraine T. Gilly of Newburgh; a daughter, Deborah M. Gamache and her husband, Gordon, of Newburgh; a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Gamache; a grandson, Charles L. Gamache and his wife, Nicole, of Rensselaer, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Alexander Funeral Home-Newburgh Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Deceased Name: Charles "Red" Gilly
Friday, May 11 GILLY - A memorial service and gathering will be held at the American Legion on 160 Forest Park Ave., Adams at 1:30 p.m. today for family and friends of Charles "Red" Gilly. Red passed away Dec. 1, 2006, and is being brought home to rest in the family plot at Bellevue Cemetery. Charles "Red" Gilly, 87, formerly of 3 Myrtle St., Adams, was living in Newburgh, Ind., at his time of death. Born on Jan. 10, 1919, in Cohoes, N.Y., he was the son of Robert L. and May Guiltman Gilly. Red worked in the Berkshire Mills and then entered the Armed Forces. He was an Army and Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in both from 1943 to 1945 as a flight officer. He also co-owned a taxi service with his brother-in-law Ray Biron for many years, worked at Butler Wholesale and retired from Kelly Lumber in Pittsfield in 1982. When driving for Kelly, Red received the Million Mile Award for his safe driving record. Red was a member of the Adams American Legion and Bennington, Vt., posts. He transferred to the Newburgh Post shortly before his death. He was also an active member of the Newburgh Senior Center. Red enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid pool and card player. He loved to travel and spend his retirement years wintering in Florida. Fishing was a favorite pastime. He leaves his loving wife of 66 years, the former Lorraine T. Biron; his daughter, Deborah M. (Gilly) Gamache and her husband, Gordon; and a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Gamache, all of Newburgh, Ind. His grandson, Charles L. Gamache and wife, Nicole, reside in Rensselaer, N.Y. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. His son, Charles L. Gilly, died in 1964.
